The exam is the first of several stages in the AACD’s accreditation process, a voluntary credential widely regarded as one of the most rigorous in dentistry. Candidates whose cases are all approved move on to an oral exam, where examiners may ask them to explain how they selected, diagnosed, planned, and carried out each case, and to assess a case chosen in advance by the examiners. Accreditation is granted only once every stage is complete.
