DataCapable, the leading SaaS enterprise platform provider of map-centric, real-time operational and situational intelligence for the utility industry, today announced the appointment of Bob Flaherty as Chief Operating Officer, effective immediately. The appointment comes as DataCapable has rapidly grown to serve 5 of the 10 largest electric utilities in the United States, supporting utility operations that reach more than 75 million customers.
Flaherty joins DataCapable at a defining moment for the utility sector. Utilities are under increasing pressure from severe weather, grid complexity, regulatory scrutiny, municipal coordination demands, and the need to deliver faster, more accurate information to customers and communities during high-impact events. Legacy systems and siloed tools were not built to handle this modern reality. DataCapable was.
The company’s platform provides utilities with a real-time operational and situational intelligence layer that improves visibility, coordination, and decision-making during both routine operations and high-impact events helping utilities act faster and communicate more effectively.
As COO, Flaherty will lead customer growth, client success, and strategic initiatives focused on helping utilities maximize their investment in the DataCapable platform. Working across the organization, and with customers and partners, he will help scale operations, drive product adoption, strengthen execution, and deepen critical relationships as the company continues to grow. His mandate is to drive the next phase of growth across DataCapable’s base of leading investor-owned, electric cooperative, and municipal utilities. He will lead DataCapable in turning its product capability, customer credibility, and industry relationships into durable market leadership.
“Bob has spent his career helping utilities connect technology, operations, and business outcomes. His appointment is a strategic acceleration point for DataCapable as we continue to expand our platform, strengthen customer relationships, and scale our impact across the industry. Utilities do not need another dashboard. They need connected intelligence that helps people make better decisions, coordinate faster, and serve customers more effectively.” — Bill Potter, Chief Executive Officer, DataCapable
Beyond scaling the company for growth, two priorities sit at the top of Flaherty’s agenda. The first is a company-wide operational excellence initiative designed to strengthen the human connections that have always differentiated DataCapable. By improving data quality, streamlining workflows, and providing teams with more timely and actionable information, the company will reduce friction, increase accuracy, and equip teams to deliver an even more responsive, personalized, and impactful customer experience.
The second priority is the expansion of a strategic Partners & Alliances initiative built on the belief that the industry’s most complex challenges are solved through collaboration. By deepening relationships with systems integrators, consultancies, utilities, and technology partners, DataCapable will align expertise, innovation, and execution to help address the evolving demands of the future Smart Grid. This spirit of cooperation will help deliver the operational resilience, situational awareness, and customer-focused outcomes that utilities, regulators, and communities increasingly expect.
“I came to DataCapable because of their unwavering focus on customer success as demonstrated by the strength of their utility references and relationships. The company has earned the trust of some of North America’s leading investor-owned, municipal, and cooperative utilities. Combined with a unique, enterprise-grade platform that helps utilities better serve both customers and operations teams, the opportunity ahead is tremendous. I am excited to be part of it.” — Bob Flaherty, Chief Operating Officer, DataCapable
