Hunt Military Communities’ Whidbey Island Family Housing has successfully completed a large-scale LED lighting upgrade across the community, replacing outdated fluorescent technology in kitchens, laundry rooms, and garages throughout all 1,148 homes. The project, completed on time and at no cost to the property, delivers lasting benefits for residents, reduces the community’s environmental footprint, and reflects Hunt’s ongoing commitment to high-quality homes for military families.
Thanks to utility rebates and incentives, the local utility company covered the full project cost, including over $277,000 in materials and labor, paying the vendor directly and supplying all required components.

The transition to LED lighting is expected to deliver annual energy cost savings of $50,000–$60,000, while also reducing maintenance demands due to LEDs’ significantly longer lifespan. Fewer bulb replacements translate into fewer work orders, minimizing disruptions for residents and staff.
Beyond energy savings, the upgrade meaningfully improves lighting quality and safety in garages and shared spaces, which directly affects how residents experience their community day to day. LED technology is also more environmentally responsible, containing no harsh chemicals and eliminating the special recycling handling required for fluorescent tubes.
